Published in 2025. 196 pages. Price 800.- Euro (plus VAT).

The Global Plastics Flow 2023 provides facts and figures on the life cycle o plastics in 45 countries covering 81% of global GDP. It offers a comprehensive overview of plastics production, consumption, end-user waste and its proper treatment and recycling, including improper disposal, through to the reuse of recyclates. As a new edition to the previous “Global Plastics Flow 2018”, the data has been updated and developments in the global circular economy are highlighted, with a focus on plastics waste management and the prevention and mismanagement.

Key findings of the study show, that in the EU-27+3 countries (Norway, Switzerland and the UK), the amount of plastics waste collected for recycling has increased by an average of 5.9% per year. In addition, waste inputs into the environment have decreased by 0.6% in this region. In China, properly disposed waste increased by 8.3%, while waste entering the environment decreased significantly by 9.7%. In other regions of the world, further action is needed. Low recycling rates due to inadequate collection and treatment systems and political measures continue to pose key challenges for global plastics waste management.
