Sabic and Landbell cooperate on the use of recycled plastics
The two companies have signed a long-term cooperation agreement to drive forward the expansion of chemical recycling.
The collaboration between chemical company Sabic and take-back system operator Landbell Group reportedly builds on a joint recycling project carried out in 2022, in which Landbell and Sabic, together with brand owner Mars, used chemical recycling to return hard-to-recycle plastic packaging to food packaging. As part of the further cooperation, Landbell is to supply mixed plastic packaging waste from the Yellow Bag as raw material. According to the cooperation partners, the mixed plastic waste will then be prepared for further recycling in a special pre-treatment plant through further sorting and cleaning processes and then used as a raw material instead of fossil raw materials in the production process in a Sabic plant, which is reportedly currently in the final stages of construction, to produce certified polymers for applications such as food contact packaging and other products. In order to develop an economical and sustainable value chain for used plastic packaging and thus increase the quantities of high-quality recycled plastics, Landbell and Sabic have combined the strengths of both companies in the cooperation, it is said. The partners also want to encourage brand owners and plastic and packaging manufacturers to integrate circular solutions made from recycled PCR plastic packaging into their product applications.
