Work starts on the material flow of plastics in Germany 2023
Over the coming months various statistics will be evaluated and, at the heart of the study, a questionaire will be sent to more than 2,000 companies involved in the fields of plastics production, processing and use. The new study plastics flow in Germany 2023 with data on production, processing, consumption, waste collection and recovery of plastics is expected to be published in September 2024.
Since 1994, the plastics industry has organised the regular compilation of data and facts for Germany that are of relevance for the study, to ensure that it has a continuous figure of data for its material and its development. With the comprehensive value chain data of plastics in Germany, the study, which appears every two years, gives relevant information to ensure an objective debate on plastics. Most recently, around 2,000 companies in the plastics industry participated in the survey in 2021, which is also known as the Conversio study. One result to emerge from the last material data collection in the year 2021, more packaging waste was mechanically recycled than before.
The survey covers the data from the year 2023. To improve the readability and understandability of the study, the layout and the textual presentation will be fundamentally modified. The comparability of the data with those of previous years is retained. Methodically, the study – as in the past decades – is based on the one hand on a survey of primary data and, on the other, on interviews with experts. From March 2024, the companies in the plastics producing, plastics conversion and plastics recycling industry will be sent the questionnaires for this. The study will be concluded and published in September 2024. Because of its solid fact base, it enjoys an excellent reputation in industry, science, politics and the authorities. It also documents the successful development of plastics recovery over the last 30 years.
The study is again being compiled by Conversio Market & Strategy GmbH, and is commissioned by BKV GmbH with the support of its project partners: PlasticsEurope Deutschland e.V., BDE – Bundesverband der Deutschen Entsorgungs-, Wasser- und Rohstoffwirtschaft e.V., bvse – Bundesverband Sekundärrohstoffe und Entsorgung e.V., Fachverband Kunststoff- und Gummimaschinen in the VDMA, IK – Industrievereinigung Kunststoffverpackungen e.V., KRV – Kunststoffrohrverband e.V., VinylPlus Deutschland e.V., GKV – Gesamtverband Kunststoffverarbeitende Industrie e.V. with its supporting associations AVK – Industrievereinigung Verstärkte Kunststoffe e.V., FSK – Fachverband Schaumkunststoffe und Polyurethane e.V. and pro-K – Industrieverband langlebige Kunststoffprodukte und Mehrwegsysteme e.V., IGBCE Industriegewerkschaft Bergbau Chemie, Energie, TecPart – Verband Technische Kunststoff-Produkte e.V., the VDA - Verband der Automobilindustrie e.V. and the VCI – Verband der Chemischen Industrie e.V..
