Plastics Europe with new president

Marco ten Bruggencate is the new president at the pan-European producer association.

Marco ten Bruggencate, Commercial Vice President for Packaging and Specialty Plastics EMEA at Dow Plastics Europe, is the new President of Plastics Europe, the Brussels-based association of plastics producers in Europe. He succeeds Dr Markus Steilemann, CEO of Covestro, who led the association for two years.

The 49-year-old Dutch-born Ten Bruggencate, who studied economics in Amsterdam and has worked for Dow since 2000, says that in his new role he wants to focus on sustainability, the Green Deal and climate neutrality. He thanks his predecessor Steilemann for his commitment to the current transformation of the industry towards CO2 neutrality and a circular economy. According to the association, he supported, among other things, the introduction of the certification system "Operation Clean sweap" to reduce pellet losses to the environment, commissioned the independent study "ReShaping Plastics: Pathways to a Circular, Climate Neutral Plastics System in Europe" and initiated a new visual identity of the association with a view to the topics of climate neutrality and circular economy. Steilemann has been nominated by the German Chemical Industry Association (VCI) to succeed the current president, Christian Kullmann of Evonik. The election of the new president is to take place at the end of September.
