PED is hosting its next “Innovation Press Conference” on 11 September 2026 at the Haus der Bundespressekonferenz in Berlin.

The theme of this year’s event organised by Plastics Europe Deutschland (PED) is the importance of plastics as an ‘invisible’ key technology for innovations such as the energy transition, artificial intelligence, medical technology and new mobility concepts. Through dialogue with representatives from industry, academia, consultancy and the media, the event will use specific applications and practical examples to discuss and demonstrate the contribution innovative plastics solutions make to tackling key societal and economic challenges. The high-calibre panel of experts includes Dr Christine Bunte, Chief Executive of PED, and, from the academic world, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Manfred Renner, Head of the Fraunhofer Cluster of Excellence Circular Plastics Economy (CCPE) and the Fraunhofer Institut für Umwelt-, Sicherheits- und Energietechnik (Institute for Environmental, Safety and Energy Technology) UMSICHT. Key topics to be discussed in Berlin include the future-oriented fields of ‘Cleantech & the circular economy’, ‘Industry 4.0 & artificial intelligence’, ‘security and resilience technologies’ and ‘the city of the future’, as well as how plastics, as enablers of innovation, can contribute to solving Germany’s major future challenges.
