PED: Dr Christine Bunte to become new managing director

On 1 January 2025, Dr Christine Bunte will take over as main managing director of the plastics manufacturers' association PlasticsEurope Deutschland e.V. (PED).

Christine Bunte is taking over from Ingemar Bühler, who left the company on 31 May 2024. Since then, Dr Alexander Kronimus has been leading the association on an interim basis. Bunte previously headed the Corporate Advocacy Team at BASF in Ludwigshafen, where she was responsible for circular economy and environmental policy, according to PED. She has extensive experience in the fields of plastics, circular economy and public affairs at national and European level. Her aim is to play a key role in shaping and driving forward the transformation of the plastics industry towards a climate-neutral circular economy, as envisaged in PlasticsEurope's Transition Roadmap. ‘It is particularly important to me to engage in dialogue at eye level with politicians, the media and society, as well as with the entire value chain and our partners in industry. In these challenging times, we must all work together to restore the competitiveness of Germany and the EU and complement the Green Deal with a Clean Industrial Deal,’ explains Bunte.

Dr Ralf Düssel, Chairman of the Board of the association, emphasises: ‘With her professional background as a chemist with a doctorate, her many years of experience in public affairs and her extensive political and economic network, Dr Bunte is the ideal addition to the competent team at PlasticsEurope Deutschland e. V.. It is important to me that we continue the strategic direction and communicative visibility of recent years. Christine Bunte is the ideal person for this and I am very much looking forward to working with her.’

The PED board would particularly like to thank the interim managing director, Dr Alexander Kronimus, for his outstanding commitment and constructive cooperation over the past few months. Chairman of the board Düssel emphasises: ‘Alexander Kronimus’ tireless dedication and strategic skills have been instrumental in successfully guiding the association through a transitional phase.’ Kronimus and Bunte also complemented each other with their expertise and specialist knowledge, Düssel continued.
