Evonik expands its commitment to the circular economy

The Essen-based specialty chemicals company Evonik has launched a new program. The goal: to increase sales by one billion euros from 2023 with circular products and technologies.

 

"We want to make the entire industry circular," explains Lauren Kjeldsen, Head of the Smart Materials Division and responsible for the newly created Circular Economy Program. "Circular Economy is a strong growth driver for Evonik," emphasizes Harald Schwager, Deputy Chairman of Evonik's Executive Board. The Group aims to generate sustainable value. As part of the program, the Group intends to expand its business with additives and specialties for the circular economy. In addition, the company intends to increase its use of defossilized raw materials based on recycled materials, biomass and CO2. According to the information provided, the company is also developing its own technologies, such as for the chemical recycling of PET waste streams that cannot be mechanically recycled. Evonik is also working on the development of technologies for the use of carbon dioxide and bio-based raw materials as feedstock.
