Dow: Recycling tests with car recycler Fiori in Italy
The US chemical company Dow Chemical wants to drive forward the recycling of plastics from end-of-life vehicles together with the Italian metal recycler Fiori.
To this end, the two companies have signed a letter of intent to establish a ‘recycling ecosystem for plastics from end-of-life vehicles’, according to a joint press release. The two companies intend to analyse the dismantling process and its effects on the quality of the end-of-life waste fraction and its suitability for recycling processes, as well as develop a business model for the recycling system as part of the project. Dow intends to invest primarily in the research and development of technologies for mechanical and chemical recycling. The Dow Renuva™ portfolio of recycled materials is to be used in the automotive recycling programme. Fiori says it plans to equip existing sorting systems at the Crespellano plant near Bologna with additional sensors for separating plastics.
