The plastics manufacturer is investing over a million euros in the expansion and modernization of its polypropylene (PP) facilities in Austria.

The new production line for PP compounding, in which plastic granulates such as polypropylene are mixed with additives, glass fibers, and recycled materials, is scheduled to go into operation in the second half of 2026 and will employ 25 additional staff, the company announced. With this expansion, Borealis aims to increase its range of PP compounds used in consumer goods, mobility, and infrastructure applications. Specifically, the additional capacity is intended for applications such as household appliances, lightweight components for electric vehicles, and exterior coatings for steel pipes. “Following the expansion of our energy business and the increase in capacity for our recyclable, lightweight polymer foam solutions, this is our third significant investment this year,” explains Borealis CEO Stefan Doboczky. The project would make innovation visible and effectively implement the strategy of supplying customers with the materials they need to achieve their performance goals and move closer to their sustainability ambitions.
