Borealis: Compounding plant for PO recyclates in operation

Borealis polyolefin recyclate recycling plant: three large silver metal containers with conical bases, connected by pipes and ladders.

The new compounding plant for recycled polyolefins (rPO) in Beringen, Belgium, is now fully operational.

According to Borealis, the plant produces polypropylene (PP) and polyethylene (PE) compounds for demanding applications in areas such as mobility, consumer goods, household appliances, and energy. The plant is said to use the company's own Borcycle M mechanical recycling technology and to combine post-consumer with virgin PO to produce recycled PO solutions. According to Borealis, the Beringen plant can process a wide range of recycled flakes. The facility shall also serve as a platform for collaboration and joint development of new recycling solutions with customers. The aim is to provide high-quality recycled solutions and thus support the circular economy. Samples of the PO recyclates were presented at K 2025 in Düsseldorf, the company said. The plant in Beringen is more than a technological milestone, says Craig Arnold, Executive Vice President Polyolefins, Base Chemicals and Circular Economy Solutions at Borealis: “By expanding access to high-quality recycled materials, we are supporting our partners in their transformation to a circular economy.”
