Alpla plans to double recycling capacity

After a successful financial year in 2024, the Austrian Alpla Group plans to continue growing in 2025 with ambitious recycling targets.
According to a statement from the internationally active plastic packaging and recycling specialist, Alpla reported that in 2024 it achieved a turnover of 4.9 billion euros with around 24,500 employees, four percent more than in the previous year. The reason for this is that in 2024 demand in North and Central America and in the strong growth markets in South America, Africa and the Middle East had recovered, it was reported. The company also sees an upward trend in Europe, but the market environment remains challenging due to increasing EU regulation and high labour costs in some countries. The group is investing at least 50 million euros annually in plastics recycling, aims to achieve its self-imposed target of at least 25 per cent recycled content in packaging by 2025, and plans to significantly increase capacity. The division currently produces 350,000 tonnes of PET and HDPE recycled material (rPET and rHDPE) at 13 plants in nine countries, according to the information provided. The output capacity is to be doubled to 700,000 tonnes by 2030.
